When the weather is nice, you can often see Leon Payne with his cane and wide brim hat walking on the sidewalk near U.S. 70. He is motivated to walk because exercise helps him control his diabetes. He is a native of Madison County and moved to Black Mountain to work at Beacon Manufacturing. Life is good in Black Mountain, because everyone is so friendly, he says. He especially enjoys worshiping at Victory Baptist Church.
