A shooting on June 28 at 43 Peridot Point has resulted in the death of the apparent shooter.
Gerardo Gozales Contreras, of Black Mountain, died from what the Black Mountain Police Department said "appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound," at 9:42 a.m. on June 29.
The department was investigating "what appears to be an attempted murder of Veronica Lopez," by Contreras, according to a press release.
Lopez, who lived with Contreras at the address where the incident occurred, is reportedly in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the head at Mission Hospital.
Lieutenant Rob Austin of the Black Mountain Police Department said the shooting was an "isolated incident" and the surrounding community was never in danger during the incident.
