Golf tournament raises $6,000 for Valley charities

From staff reports

Another amazing October is in the books for the Douglas Clark Brinkley Memorial Golf Tournament.

Despite nearly 25 inches of rain, Brent Miller and his team from Black Mountain Golf Course worked hard to make the course playable. The seventh annual tournament, held Oct. 1 and hosted by Premier Sales & Marketing, raised much-needed financial aid for several local charities dear to the hearts of residents of the Black Mountain area. This year, with the help of a load of local business support, the tournament provided $6,000 to be divided and poured into deserving community lifelines. Over the past seven years, the tournament has donated $50,000.

This year the tournament continued to support local charities and a new veterans organization. Warrior Service Dogs pairs dogs from shelters with local veterans and provides training to match them with their dogs. Donald Hopkins, the tournament’s Marine veteran from last year, was able to attend this year and was awarded as well.

The tournament sends a special thanks to all its local sponsors - Ingles Markets, Graybar Electric, Hopey & Co., Bi-Lo, Black Mountain Tire Connection, Midsouth Form & Supplies, Harwood Funeral Home, Red Radish, Precision Graphics, Butterball, Pilgrims Pride, Arcadia Dairies, Joyce Boyett Allstate Ins., Daisy Brands, NC Farm Bureau Ins., Fence Scapes, Monte Vista Hotel, Carolyn and Bill Munn, Black Mountain Golf Course and Hardees Old Fort.

The next tournament will be Oct. 6, 2016 at the Black Mountain Golf Course. To sponsor or play, contact tournament organizer Jeff Brinkley at 664-0522.
