Montreat College noted for its great outdoors
Montreat College offers just about the best adventure opportunities in the area, according to Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine’s recently announced Top Adventure College Tournament. Montreat College finished second to Western Carolina University.
Thirty-two colleges and universities from across the Southeast and Mid Atlantic were selected to compete, selected for their outdoor clubs and curricula, commitment to outdoor and environmental initiatives, the quality of their outdoor athletes and programs and their opportunities for adventure. The schools were then placed in a “March Madness”-style bracket, where they competed in head-to-head matchups, with the winner advancing according to reader votes.
Montreat College defeated Warren Wilson College, Washington & Lee, Maryville and Sewanee to set up its finals showdown against Western Carolina.
This year, it was one of the first two programs in the U.S. to be given a Program of Distinction designation by the North American Association for Environmental Education.
