Rain doesn't dampen spirits at Ministry food drive

“Rain, rain did not dampen the spirit of the postal letter carriers on Saturday, May 11,” said Chuck Williams, food pantry supervisor and volunteer coordinator of Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry. “The enthusiasm of the postal employees of the Black Mountain and Swannanoa Post Offices was filled with ‘sunshine’ as they carried out their duties with love and compassion for those they serve.”
SVCM received 6,800 pounds of food this year, slightly down from last year.
Williams attributes the decrease to the rain.
The food was processed by 31 volunteers and, for the third year in row, the boys from Black Mountain Academy came to help sort the food.
Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at SVCM on 101 North Ridgeway Avenue. Monetary donations designated to food can be mailed to SVCM, P.O. Box 235, Black Mountain, NC 28711.
