An annual event that benefits local residents battling hunger returns at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry’s Walk for Hunger Relief will take place at First Baptist Church Black Mountain on Montreat Road.

Participants are asked to be at the church by 1:15 p.m. to register for either the 1-mile walk or 4-mile walk.

The Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry Walk for Hunger Relief brings hundreds of participants to the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain in 2016. The annual event returns this year on Sunday, Oct. 14

SVCM, a Black Mountain-based nonprofit organization that supports area residents in need, will accept donations of non-perishable food from non-walkers at the church during the event. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Park Ridge Health’s Wellness on Wheels van will be at First Baptist Church during the Walk for Hunger Relief, giving free blood pressure checks and body mass index screenings.

Anyone interested in sponsorship or information on how to participate, contact SVCM Executive Director Cheryl Wilson at 664-9224 or svcmdirector@gmail.com.
