Lake Tomahawk duplicate bridge results
The Lake Tomahawk Duplicate Bridge Group played at the Lakeview Center on Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain on July 17. There were two winners. Coming in first for north-south were Suzy Harter and Myra Schoen. Coming in first for east-west were Elizabeth Lovejoy and Ed Zawaki. When the group got together on July 24 Dan McGaughey and George Ackerman finished first with Larry Pearlman and Marti Saltzman finishing second. Ed Zawaki and Elizabeth Lovejoy finished third. The game is free every Tuesday night, and those looking to join can email firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
Learn about saving your seeds at Black Mountain Library
Have you ever thought of going a gardener step further by saving seeds from those heirloom and open-pollinated plants?
Come listen and learn while Chris Smith of Sow True Seed presents “How to Save Easy Seeds” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the education room of the Black Mountain Library. Chris will guide us through this time honored tradition of saving easy seeds. This hour long presentation is free and sponsored by Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library.
Friends of the Swannanoa Library holds 'Groovin' book sale
The Friends of the Swannanoa Library will be holding its final half-price book sale from 5-8:30 p.m. during the Swannanoa concert series Groovin' on Grovemont on Tuesday, Aug. 7. All adult hard cover and large paperbacks will be available for 50 cents and adult mass market paperbacks will be 25 cents. Hard cover books for children and young adults will be 25 cents and paperback books for children will be available for 10 cents.
Cholesterol screening in five minutes
Givens LifeMinistries will provide cholesterol screenings at the Swannanoa United Methodist Church from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The screenings will test total cholesterol, HDL and glucose, with results available in five minutes. The cost is $15 and screenings require appointments, which can be made by calling 686-5284.

Arrowhead Gallery calls on artists for September exhibit
Arrowhead Gallery is accepting 2D and 3D art for a September exhibit. The theme is “Live Laugh, Love." The goal of this exhibit is to show that what brings us together is stronger than what divides us. This flows from the quote “Live every moment, laugh every day, love beyond words.” Works will be accepted from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6 at Arrowhead Gallery 78C South Catawba Avenue in Old Fort. The exhibit will be on display on Sept. 7-19 in the annex gallery.
