Last Chance for Summer Camp at BMCA

The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is offering its final half-day themed summer camp for children ages 3-9 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on July 30 - Aug. 3. The cost for the camp is $125. The theme of the camp is Hip Hop Hooray. The approach will be slightly different for campers divided into preschool and elementary age groups.

Music teacher Jennifer Anderson will join Amy Maze, who organizes all camps, designs activities and leads the dancing element. These energetic half-day camps put an emphasis on creative movement, dance and music. Campers work through the week to create an informal performance to be shared with family and friends.

Black Mountain Fire Department hosts blood drive

The Black Mountain Fire Department, located on 106 Montreat Road, is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 26. The Red Cross issued an urgent call for donors, especially those with type O blood, earlier this month in response to an emergency blood shortage. 

Warhorse Classic Golf Tournament returns for 32nd year

The annual Warhorse Classic Golf Tournament, which benefits the Owen High School football team, returns to the Black Mountain Golf Course for the 32nd year on Friday, July 27. Registration is $100 per person or $400 for a four-person team. For more information contact golf course operations manager Brent Miller at 669-2710.

Learn about saving your seeds at Black Mountain Library 

Have you ever thought of going a gardener step further by saving seeds from those heirloom and open-pollinated plants?   

Come listen and learn while Chris Smith of Sow True Seed presents “How to Save Easy Seeds” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 in the education room of the Black Mountain Library.  Chris will guide us through this time honored tradition of saving easy seeds.  This hour long presentation is free and sponsored by Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library.

Friends of the Swannanoa Library holds 'Groovin' book sale

The Friends of the Swannanoa Library will be holding its final half-price book sale from 5-8:30 p.m. during the Swannanoa concert series Groovin' on Grovemont on Tuesday, Aug. 7. All adult hard cover and large paperbacks will be available for 50 cents and adult mass market paperbacks will be 25 cents. Hard cover books for children and young adults will be 25 cents and paperback books for children will be available for 10 cents. 

Go all in on Wednesdays with Poker at the Post 

Black Mountain VFW Post 9157 on 165 Cragmont Road is hosting Poker at the Post! every Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m. The public is invited and registration is free. Players can earn spots in the upcoming end of the season tournaments during the next two weeks.
