Everett W. Stephenson

Black Mountain

Everett W. Stephenson, 91, of Black Mountain, NC passed away November 14, 2016.

Everett was born January 20, 1925 in Buncombe County to the late Bascombe and Georgia Stephenson.

Everett joined the US Navy in 1943 and served 4 years in WWII and 2 years in the Korean Conflict, and retired from the US Naval Reserves in 1985 after 40 years of service. He worked for the Black Mountain Post Office for 30 years and retired in 1981 as Assistant Post Master.

In addition to his parents, Everett is preceded in death by his son, Jerry W. Stephenson; sisters, Betty Stephenson and Ann Hendley; and brother, Bill Stephenson.

Everett is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary B. (Josie) Stephenson; sons, James E. (Jim) Stephenson and wife, Kim Denise Stephenson of Lilburn, GA, and Joey B. Stephenson and wife, Susan M. Stephenson of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Brandy S. Sullivan of Las Vegas and Tyler J. Stephenson of Lilburn, GA; and great-grandson, Connor Rohan Sullivan.

Everett was a member of First Baptist Church, Black Mountain.  A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home and at other times at the residence. Burial was a later date at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.  Those desiring to make a memorial contribution are encouraged to consider CarePartners Hospice, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

Stephen W. Genetti, 68, passed away at his home in Asheville, N.C. on Monday, November 14, 2016.  Arrangements for his service, as well as a celebration of his life, will be announced at a later date.

Janet Leigh Glenn Lunsford

Black Mountain

Janet Leigh Glenn Lunsford, 50, of Black Mountain, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016.
Born in Buncombe County to Robert and Bertha “Boots” Fortune Glenn, she graduated from Appalachian State University and also attended Queens College in Charlotte. Leigh was owner/operator of Riddle Flower Shop in Black Mountain, then was with her mother, “Boots”, at Black Mountain Floral. She was currently an agent with Greybeard Realty. She had a strong love for Jamie, her family, dogs, Barney and Chloe, and all God’s creatures.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jamie Lunsford; stepson, Zach Lunsford; brother, David Glenn (Krista); niece, Randa Glenn; and great-nephew and niece, Hunter and Skyler Glenn, all of Black Mountain.
A memorial service was held Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. Rev. Dr. William Henderson and Rev. Bruce Robinson officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brother Wolf Rescue, 31 Glendale Ave., Asheville, NC, 28803.

Kitty Franklin Cromwell

Black Mountain

Peacefully on November 1st, 2016, Kitty Cromwell died in her sleep at her home in Black Mountain, NC. She was born in Baltimore, MD on January 20th, 1936, the daughter of the late Michael Jenkins Cromwell and Maria McEvoy Cromwell.

Kitty was the youngest of five siblings, and is preceded in death by a brother, P. McEvoy Cromwell. She is survived by a brother, M. Jenkins Cromwell, Jr. of Cockeysville, MD, and sisters, Maria C. Williams of Lutherville, MD, and Anne C. Bieretz of Towson, MD.

Known with great affection as Aunt Kitty, she is also survived by fourteen nephews and nieces, many great nephews and great nieces, as well as cousins by the dozens.

Kitty loved a good party, good people, and good food. She enjoyed a great sense of humor with a chuckle that could be heard across the room. She was both Irish and a redhead. She loved to pray, especially for world peace in general, and for the family in particular. In her younger days she was a frequent world traveler, taking prayer mission trips to hot spots around the world, including Korea, Russia, Vietnam, a few Middle East countries, as well as several African countries.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 25th (the day after Thanksgiving), at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier Church, 13717 Cuba Road, Hunt Valley, MD 21030 at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held privately.

Allene Wright Craig

Fairview

Allene Wright Craig, 86, of Fairview went home to be with her Lord Thursday, November 17, 2016.

Mrs. Craig, who has family on Cragmont Road in Black Mountain, was born August 3, 1930 in Buncombe County to the late Lunnie and Jennie Wright.  Allene liked to garden and can her vegetables. She was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. A special time for her was going out with her brother and sisters after church on Sunday to eat.  She was a precious and Godly mama.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Craig; son, Steve Craig; and brother, Oates Wright.

Mrs. Craig is survived by her daughter, Doris Hollifield (Cliff); sons, Charles Craig (Dora), Larry Craig (Marla), and Rick Craig (Dana); daughter-in-law, Donnie Craig; sisters, Edith Craig, Mavis Pack, Carolyn Craig, Thelma Russell, and Martha Garrison; brothers, James “Jay” Wright and Daniel Wright; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. in Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Harris and Rev. Andrew Parker officiating.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Harwood Home for Funerals.

Ruth Wheeler

Black Mountain

Ruth Wheeler, 88, of Black Mountain went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2016.

Mrs. Wheeler was born January 18, 1928 in Burke County to the late Isaiah and Callie Carswell. She was a beloved member of Valley Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Ruth was a caregiver for several of her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wheeler and three brothers.

Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her daughter, Gail Freirich (Glenn); sons, Jackie Wheeler (Vickey) and Earl Wheeler (Chris); four sisters; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several dear friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals with Archie Cook, Coye Wheeler, and url Ledford officiating. The family receiveed friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial was Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Harwood Home for Funerals, harwoodhomeforfunerals.com.
