At White Horse Black Mountain, saxophone phenom Jacob Secor jazzes up his friends
Saxophonist extraordinaire Jacob Secor is a recent graduate of UNCA, but he’s already an established musical force and one of the finest young players in the area. He’s no stranger to White Horse Black Mountain, having previously appeared with the house band for the UNC Asheville Jazz Alumni Network Annual Jam, The Secret Quartet, and with an array of special guests at his senior recital.
Now he’ll be playing with his own band at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, as part of The White Horse Wednesday Jazz series. Tickets are $10 advance/$12 door/ $6 students.
A Raleigh native living in Asheville, Secor is a product of the UNCA Jazz and Contemporary Music program. There, local saxophone guru Jacob Rodrigues recruited Secor as a member of a student jazz ensemble dubbed The Secret Quartet, performing all-original compositions. He also plays sax with the popular jazz/funk outfit Window Cat.
