Discovering the songs of Mike Gaffney

STAFF REPORTS
Veteran Asheville songwriter and former Bele Chere organizer Dan Lewis describes his friend Mike Gaffney as a great undiscovered talent who’s spent a lifetime quietly writing great songs. Listeners can discover those musical gems for themselves on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. when Gaffney makes a return visit to White Horse Black Mountain. Gaffney hails from the small cotton mill community of Worthville outside Greensboro but has been a fixture on the Asheville music scene for more than 35 years. His writing explores the ironies and absurdities of daily life, delivered in a folksy, laconic style underpinned by bluesy finger-picked guitar. Lately, he’s been enjoying traveling around North Carolina, meeting interesting people, and “doing what I enjoy - which is almost everything.” Tickets to the show are $8 advance/$12 door.
