Montreat invites all to centennial concert
Montreat College will celebrate the culmination of its Centennial Year with a special Centennial Pops Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 1 in Montreat’s Anderson Auditorium. The free concert’s theme is “Music through the Decades” and will feature music composed throughout the college’s 100-year history.
Included in the program are compositions by Johann Strauss, Dave Brubeck and Coldplay. Also on the bill is a “movie spectacular” featuring music from “Schindler’s List,” “Star Wars” and the James Bond films. Local community members are invited to attend and celebrate with the college.
“The Centennial Pops Concert is an excellent opportunity to celebrate this incredible milestone,” said Montreat College president Paul J. Maurer. “Montreat College’s 100-year legacy is something to be proud of, and we invite all college and local community members to come celebrate that legacy with us.”
The Centennial Pops Concert will feature performances by the Montreat College Choir, the Montreat Chamber Orchestra and the college’s contemporary ensemble, The Movement. The concert will be preceded by a free 2 p.m. ice cream social on the Anderson lawn, just outside Anderson Auditorium. Donations for the concert and social are welcome.
