As if Paula Hanke is singing just for you

From staff reports

The White Horse Black Mountain’s Cabaret Jazz Series hosts versatile vocalist Paula Hanke and her quartet of jazz luminaries on Friday, Nov. 20.

Hanke’s energetic stage presence and a knack for bringing every song to life have made her a favorite performer on the Asheville scene and beyond.

A Wisconsin native, Hanke began performing professionally right out of high school. Her years of touring worldwide with show bands are evident in her ability to tackle just about any repertoire. As she negotiates material from quietly intimate to roof-raising, listeners have said she has the rare ability to make each person feel as if they’re being sung to individually.

Hanke’s debut album “The Only Voice” displays her expressive vocals with assistance from many Asheville musicians. For this show, she’s accompanied by WNC jazz players pianist Michael Jefry Stevens, saxophonist Frank Southecorvo, Daniel Iannucci on bass and drummer Bill Berg.
