If the Black Crowes and Gram Parsons had a baby, this would be the tribute band. So says the publicist for Nick Dittmeier & the Sawdusters, an alt-country band from Louisville, Kentucky, that will be playing a free show at Town Pump on June 7.

Dittmeier himself is a singer-songwriter from southern Indiana. He fronted the alt-country band Slithering Beast for five years. In early 2013, he started performing under his own name and established a new band.

His first release, an EP called “Extra Better,” garnered local and regional attention and radio play and earned him a nomination as songwriter of the year at the inaugural Louisville Music Awards. He and the band were also nominated as “Americana Group of the Year” at this year’s Louisville Music Awards.

Dittmeier and the band have had a pretty good year opening for such artists as Hayes Carll, Justin Townes Earle and Whitey Morgan. Relentless performances ensued while he wrote the album “Light of Day,” released in April 2014. A new record is in the works to be released next year.
