Exhibit explores what makes an artist tick
The members of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League will present their fall members show, “Images and Words,” at the Red House Studios and Gallery from Sept. 8-Nov. 7.
The opening reception will be 5-7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the gallery, 310 W. State Street, Black Mountain, next to the Monte Vista Hotel.
“Images and Words” explores the seeds of artistic creation, the inspiration that makes artists put paint to canvas, knife to clay and eye to the lens. Those inspirational words will be displayed beside the art work they inspired. This all-media show will represent a collaboration between the mind of the artist and the viewer.
“The Red House is a co-operative of highly skilled, experienced artists, unlike almost anything available in the area,” Marianne Larsen Reninger, the show’s curator and an art league member for four years, said. “It is somewhat of a hidden secret, where you can purchase beautiful work at very reasonable prices.”
The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League endeavors to expand the public’s appreciation of all types of art. It presents yearlong themed exhibits at the Red House Gallery free to the public. The art is for sale and can be purchased and taken at the time of purchase.
Visitors may also tour the open studios at the gallery where individual artists work and display.
