From staff reports

The opening reception for the 48th Annual Juried Members Exhibit of the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League will be held at the Red House Studios & Gallery from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 at the Red House Studios & Gallery in Black Mountain next to the Monte Vista Hotel.

The show runs through Monday, Sept. 28. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12 to 4 p.m. For information visit or contact curator Susan Lueck at 669-7848.

The reception will include a presentation of awards to artists in different categories. Karen Chambers judged the artwork of those juried into the show. The exhibit includes the work of both emerging and accomplished artists in a variety of two and three dimensional media.

This is the third year that the SVFAL, Western North Carolina’s oldest art league, will be presenting the annual exhibit at the renovated Red House. Red House Studios & Gallery provides a setting to cultivate the creative talents of beginning and accomplished artists; a permanent and continuous gallery space for member exhibits and receptions; a home for operation of the league including classrooms, meeting rooms, and workshop areas; and seven working studio spaces for members where they can also sell their work.

SVFAL boasts a membership of more than 200 artists who work in a variety of two- and three- dimensional media, including oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pencil, pen and ink, scratchboard, photography, sculpture, clay, glass, wood, mixed media, fiber art, and collage.

The exhibit is an opportunity for both emerging and accomplished artists to present their best work in a non-themed show.
