BMCA gallery exhibits Art in Bloom works

From staff reports

Art in Bloom is held every June as a fundraiser for the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. The first step in making the event, held this year June 18-20, happen is choosing the artwork to be shown.

Unlike big museums with large permanent collections, Art in Bloom at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts starts with executive director Gale Jackson and her selection committee going to regional galleries from Asheville to Old Fort to choose work they believe will spur the imaginations of the floral designers, who in June will create flower arrangements inspired by the work.

This will be the ninth year the center has organized this multi-day immersion in art and flowers.

The artwork is exhibited at the center through June 20 (admission is free until June 18). Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The Art in Bloom weekend June 18-20 includes a gala preview party, floral designs in the gallery, a two-day cottage garden tour and a reading by honorary chair, former N.C. poet laureate Fred Chappell.

The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is in the Old City Hall at 225 W. State St.
