DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament opens at The Red House

Special To The Black Mountain News

The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League is ushering in the holidays with a celebration of color and form.

On Friday November 9th DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Red House Studios and Gallery.

This piece by Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League member Libba Tracy will be one of many featured in the upcoming "DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament," which opens on Nov. 9.

This exhibit showcases ceramic sculpture & pottery, fiber art wall pieces & wearable art, mixed media pieces & mosaics, woodworking & sculpture, and jewelry. The show is a treasure chest of gift ideas and it is accompanied by league members’ interpretations of holiday ornaments.

This piece by Alan Kaufman will be one of many displayed in the show "DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament,' which opens at the Red House Studios and Gallery on Nov. 9.

For this part of the exhibit our artists adorn whimsical trees with small scale hanging artworks that are affordable and fun. DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament runs through Dec. 30.

In keeping with the theme of DIMENSIONS, from 4-6 p.m. on Monday Nov. 19, award-winning glass artist Michael J. Mikula, of Cleveland, Ohio, will be presenting his sculptural work in a not-to-be-missed gallery program & reception at The Red House.

For more than two decades Mikula has explored a glass process using multi-part graphite molds as a tool to reinterpret architecture in blown glass. He calls the resulting body of ground-breaking work "Architectural Blown Glass".

You can see his work at mikulaglass.com.

"DIMENSIONS & The Artful Ornament" opens at the Red House Studios and Gallery on Nov. 9 and will feature work from artists in the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League. These gourds are the work of member Barbara Skyburg.

The Red House Studios and Gallery, home of SVFAL, is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Saturday and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information on the league, visit svfalarts.org.
