White Horse delivers a double bill you can dance to

On Thursday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. the White Horse Black Mountain will hop to the jump blues and swing sounds of Virginia and the Slims. Their music occupies a space somewhere between the big bands and early rock’n’roll, when smaller bands created a high energy, punchy dance music set to a swing beat.

They’ll be joined on the double bill by Rebecca and the Reckoning, a six-piece country band out of Asheville.

Together since 2013, Virginia and the Slims are party time favorites with a reputation for keeping the joint jumping and the fun flowing. There’s no Virginia in the band, but there’s no shortage of jump blues, swing and oldies to dance to when the group takes the stage. Over the years the band has added members for a fuller sound, and founding members Sean Anderson (guitar) and James Kamp (saxophone, vocals), are now joined by Tim McCall (bass), vocalist Joanna Boyd Best, harmonica ace Bill Mattocks, saxophonist Vinny Corda and drummer Marco Noto.

Rebecca and the Reckoning cover the breadth of country music with their original tunes and covers. Classic honky tonk, Americana, zydeco and outlaw country are all part of the versatile players’ repertoire.

Rebecca is vocalist and guitarist Rebecca O’Quinn, with guitarist/vocalist Chris Porter, bassist Tim Doyle, pianist Brad Curtioff, drummer Ben Falcon and pedal steel guitarist Marty Lewis completing the lineup.
