Mia Rose Lynne Transcends Nashville Country Pop

Last year was an exciting one for songwriter Mia Rose Lynne. Along with other honors, her string of awards now includes winning the 2017 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition and a second place showing at the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase. Her name is mentioned without hyperbole in the same breath as greats like Alison Krauss, Joni Mitchell and Patty Griffin.

Music fans can hear for themselves what the fuss is about at the White Horse Black Mountain at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Lynn is a northern California native now living in Nashville, where she joins the ranks of young, progressive songwriters working outside the pop country mainstream. She grew up singing harmonies in the family western swing band and often fell asleep in their Winnebago to the sound of festival campsite bluegrass jams.

Lynne pursued a career in musical theater, but after settling in Music City her love for roots music reasserted itself and the songs emerged. 

She released her debut album, Open Space, in 2014 with songs ranging from folk ballads scored for string ensemble to bluegrass and folk-pop.

Her 2016 sophomore effort of stripped-down acoustic originals, Follow Me Moon, has been described by Paul Liberatore of the Marin Independent Journal as “Original Americana-style songs that come at romantic relationships with honesty, wit…life experience without sounding world weary, sincerity without self importance.”
