By ghostly light, artists interpret the night

STAFF REPORTS

The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League celebrates its 50th anniversary with the first members' art show of 2017, entitled “Moonlight Becomes You,” from Friday, Feb. 10 to Sunday, May 7 at the Red House Gallery.

Rhanna Nyman's work is part of "Moonlight Becomes You" at Red House Gallery.

The show will lure gallery visitors to the “world after dark,” from the oceans to the mountains, inside and outside (life after dark takes on a particular look and feel). The artists participating in this show will interpret the theme using a variety of media.

Moonlight and mood go together, according to curator Jack Williams. Instances of mystery, stealth, stolen moments and intrigue in a spooky gothic mansion are all intensified by the shadows that moonlight allows. The participating artists invite you to come and have your emotions tantalized. A separate exhibit will showcase the work of 15 new league members.

An artists reception will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at the Red House Gallery, 310 W. State St., next to the historic Monte Vista Hotel. The Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League has provided a venue for art and artists in the Valley since 1967. The Red House provides artist studios and ongoing workshops.
