Laughing about the mysteries of marriage

From staff reports

As a parting gift to the Black Mountain area, residents and professional actors Jim and Carol Anderson Shores are offering up a free “date night” night of comedy, “Love, Relationships and Other Confusing Things,” on June 12.

“Whether you’ve been married 45 years or 45 minutes,” Carol Anderson Shores said, “you’ll relate to the funny, true-to-life exploration of the joys and challenges of life together. It’s a really fun evening.”

The Shores’ comedic gift has taken them all over the country. They have performed comedy theatre at a wide variety of venues, including arena marriage events with organizations like Familylife.

The first act of the evening will be “Communicating with the Opposite Sex,” a hilarious interactive presentation that explores the differences between the sexes, one that offers practical insights and tools for better communication. The second act is comedy theater that looks at several of the issues of the journey through life together. “Whether you are married, dating or just want to come and have a very entertaining evening with friends, all are welcome,” Carol Shores said.

“Our goal is to offer encouragement,” Jim Shores said. “Don’t we all need that and especially in marriage? What we get told most often is that we make people feel normal, like they aren’t the only ones who deal with these things. But it’s also clearly worth the effort it takes to make a marriage work.”

Programming for the events is designed for adults, not children. Childcare will be provided for newborns through 5th grade; RSVP toSarah Lynn Miller at 669-7577 by June 11.
