Author's luncheon invites people to wear spring hats

On Tuesday, March 20 - the first day of spring - the Books & Bites Author Luncheon at Lake Lure Inn invites participants to wear their most festive spring hats to this fundraiser. Featured at the 11 a.m. luncheon will be Dick Wall, who will talk about his late wife, Carol Wall, and her book, "Mister Owita's Guide to Gardening: How I Learned the Unexpected Joy of a Green Thumb and an Open Heart." Reservations are $25 in advance at 828-287-6392. A prize will be awarded for the best fat. 

Duplicate bridge group posts results from March 6

The Lake Tomahawk Duplicate Bridge Group played at the Lakeview Center on Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain and had a great time. Coming in first were Lee Wilcox/Julie Wilcox. Apply for Martin Luther King scholarships now

Each year the Swannanoa Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Corporation offers educational scholarships and financial aid to graduating high school seniors in the Swannanoa Valley who are planning to enroll on a full time basis in a two-year or four-year college program. Scholarships are available for first time applicants and for students who wish to renew applications from the previous year. Applications are available at Owen and Community high schools and may also be downloaded at Deadline for applying (and postmarks) is April 12.
