 Roy Lee Bartlett

  Roy Lee Bartlett, 85, of Swannanoa passed away Friday, December 15, 2017.

  Mr. Bartlett was born January 19, 1932 in Buncombe County to the late Clyde and Pearl Robinson Bartlett.

  He was a man of God and a member of Grove Stone Baptist Church.  Roy was a very intelligent man, graduating from Liberty University at the age of 75.  Roy was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. 

  Roy is survived by his wife, Minnie Bartlett; daughters, Jeany Bartlett and Carolyn Deal; sons, Randy Bartlett (Marcia), Gary Bartlett (Karen), and David Bartlett (Beth); sister, Ola Mae Vess (Ray); 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

  A Celebration of Life Service was held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Grove Stone Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Long and Rev. James Lamb officiating.  The family received friends immediately following the service.  Burial was in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

 Monty Whitaker

Black Mountain

 Monty Whitaker, 60, of Black Mountain, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017.

  Monty was born August 16, 1957 in Beaufort County, NC to the late Nestus and Evelyn Wiggs. She has been a resident of Buncombe County all of her adult life. Monty loved working at Tops for Shoes and Cragmont Assembly.

  Monty is survived by her daughter, Amelia Sluder (Sherman) of Fairview; son, Daniel Wiggs (Autumn) of Black Mountain; sister, Ann Davis (James) of Beulaville, NC; grandchildren, Izabelle, Skylar, Cailyn, and Evie; and aunt, Betty Jo Hensley of Jacksonville, NC.

  A Celebration of Life Service was held Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 7 pm at Cragmont Assembly.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cragmont Assembly, 1233 North Fork Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.  Arrangements by Harwood Home for Funerals.
