Michael William (Bill) Konnert, Jr.
Michael William (Bill) Konnert, Jr., age 77, of Black Mountain, N.C, died Feb. 2, 2017 surrounded by his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; his children, Gary (Laura), Jeffrey, and Nancy; grandchildren, Kathy, Thomas (Dahlia) Ellie and Jessica and his brother John (Judy).
He was born on June 6,1939 in Conneaut, Ohio, to Margaret Ring Konnert and Michael William Konnert,Sr. He graduated from The College of Wooster in 1961, where he lettered in football and track, received his master's degree from John Carroll University in 1966 and his doctorate from the University of Tennessee in 1969.
Bill held many professional positions in higher education, culminating as Professor of Educational Administration at Kent State University for 23 years and department chair for 6 years. He was the author of numerous publications covering educational leadership focusing on school superintendency. He was school superintendent in Tullahoma, TN for 3 years and a superintendent search specialist for 20 years.
He was also involved in Kent State athletics, serving as basketball referee observer, member of the faculty athletic committee, NCAA faculty athletic representative and chaired the MID America Conference (MAC) Faculty Representatives. Bill was an avid tennis player and member of Cheshire Racquet Club and Black Mountain Tennis Association. He was a member of Black Mountain Presbyterian Church.
