The Irish are famed for their quick wit and way with words, and their folklore is filled with tales of clever tricksters. In that spirit, Carolina Ceili is presenting a special April Fools’ Day show, “A Bunch o’ Blarney,” at White Horse Black Mountain on Friday, April 1.

Along with lively songs and tunes, including some brand-new material, the band will season the evening with humor, audience participation and elements of surprise.

Ever since Maggie Anderson founded the band several years ago, Carolina Ceili has made a steady stream of appearances at festivals and venues throughout the Southeast. The band recently did a two-week stretch at the Florida Renaissance Festival and two weekends at Rick City’s Shamrock City Fest. No strangers to the White Horse in Black Mountain, it has produced three annual Yulefest shows there. Entertainers at heart as well as musicians, the group draws the audience in with their vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements.

Three founding members of Carolina Ceili remain with the band: Anderson (vocals, bodhran), Laurie Fisher (fiddle, tin whistle, vocals) and Marcos Harkness (mandolin, guitar, vocals) form the core of the sound. Zachary Dean will also be making his debut on guitar and piano on selected numbers, and Berklee School of Music graduate Laura Smith guests on fiddle.
